The Art & Science of Scaling 

The previous section established the structural conditions that shape any African scaling venture. We now turn from context to framework: what scaling is and how it differs from growing, what attributes distinguish ventures that scale from those that raise and stall, the three pathways through which African scaling actually happens, what the journey looks like in practice, and the decisions founders have to make along the way that determine whether the journey ends in scale or stall.

The framework is calibrated to the context already established. A scaling model that ignored what we previously documented would not survive contact with the African operating environment. The chapters that follow - on the enabling ecosystem, on the venture itself, on people, capital, and the way forward - build on this framework. The diagnosis is structural; the framework is operational; the chapters that follow are where the framework is put to work.
